Taxation

There are two known truths about life, Death and Taxes.  Why should taxes be one of the known truths in life, when did we agree that we work for the government and not the other way around.  Government should work for its people, and while taxes should be paid because of necessary functions carried out by the government, taxes should be voluntary based upon consumption. 
A fair tax should replace the federal income tax.  Taxation based upon consumption would amount to the same amount of money that the federal income tax generates but it would allow ordinary citizens to choose how much they wanted to provide to the government.  Used items wouldn't be subject to the fair tax because taxes have already been paid upon those items.  
There are also certain items that should be exempt, unprocessed food at the grocery store so people can provide the nourishment that they need, electricity and gas used to heat and cool the home as well as cook, and water.  These items are needed to live.
All other items should be subject to the fair tax because all other items that we purchase are luxury items.  As Americans we do not need the most luxurious homes, the best cars, entertainment centers.  With a fair tax it will allow Americans to choose what they want to spend their money on, as well as enable Americans to save more money because the money will not be taken out of their paycheck for an income tax, they could save more money.
